The History Of Urban Moto Magazine
San Francisco Chronicle's Catherine Bigelow called Urban Moto Magazine, "A throwback to what Rolling Stone Magazine used to be when it thrived in San Francisco in the late 1960s."
Urban Moto Magazine is the guerilla moto-publication that grew out of a garage five years ago, whose main office is still located in San Francisco, California. The goal was to give motorcycle enthusiasts an
alternative to the mainstream motor press. While UM publishes ccontent similar to other magazines -- bike reviews, event coverage, feature interviews, etc. -- we also add a fresh, healthy dose of subculture perspective to the mix. We publish writers and artists from all walks of life, some famous, some not. Though we have had but little choice to go a bit mainstream as we've grown, our foundation is and always will be that of a guerilla publication, which is what initially attracted our contributors, readers and fans.
You can follow the characters of Urban Moto Magazine staff and friends as we go through the process of conceptualizing, writing, photographing and partying our way through each issue in San Francisco. From a small underground upstart that refused advertising, to what it is today, UM remains faithful to its grassroots. Today, full of advertising, but still flowing with gonzo journalism and provocative coverage that has helped make it the number one mag of its kind.
